Time In Nature

Spending time nature is beneficial in so many ways, yet not many people actually do it!

It can boost vitality, mood, and even your immune system.

The Japanese call it forest bathing, or 'shin rin yoku'. They found that a certain branch of our immune system army is boosted when we spend time outside with trees. When we spend 30 minutes or more outdoors appreciating trees, enjoying the smells and clean air, our immune system gets a big boost, which can last up to 2 weeks! It's also very calming to the nervous system, bringing you into a state of rest and digest, which is much more conducive to healing.

A few simple ways to enjoy more time in nature:

  • Take your cup of tea outside in your backyard, if you are lucky enough to have one. Enjoy your cup mindfully while being mindful of your surroundings.
  • A walk on the beach (Leisa's favourite!)
  • A walk in your local park. It doesn't need to be a National Park or dense forest... anywhere where there is a few trees, some green grass, flowers, etc will do.
  • Look at beautiful photos of nature, or watch a documentary. If you really can't make it outside, either because of the weather, or because you are too sick, even just looking at photos displaying nature scene has been shown to be beneficial.
